Daytime trips offer the greatest variety of fish with many options
and fishing techniques such as trolling, drifting, bottom or reef
fishing, chunking and fly fishing. Species available during the day
are Striped Bass, Bluefish, Fluke, Porgy and False Albacore.
Dependent upon type of season, many or all of these techniques are
utilized to catch your fish of choice.
Family Package…Bring
the kids out to do some reef fishing and catch porgies as fast as
you can get your baited hook down to them. Porgy fishing is a
fantastic way to introduce youngsters to the sport of fishing.
Porgies are super abundant on the reefs from June to October which
will keep the kids’ attention for hours. You can also expect to
catch Striped Bass, Bluefish and Blackfish on these trips.
Spring Striped Bass
River Run...Beginning
mid-May, Stripers migrate into our waters chasing Herring and
Alewives up the rivers. This provides anglers with an abundance of
Striped Bass that are hungry and ready to eat. Most Bass are taken
by casting lures and fly fishing. Day or night trips available for
one to two people in a 15-foot Flats boat.
Striped Bass and Bluefish…The
best methods include trolling, drifting with live bait and chunking.
Some or all of these techniques will be utilized for you to enjoy
your sportfishing day on the water.
Fluke…during the summer
months, the Clinton/Westbrook area has a truly amazing Fluke
fishery. Relax while we make long drifts through the many locations
of prime fluke habitat in the area. At the end of the day you will
be happy to walk away with a bag of sweet and delicious Fluke
fillets, and maybe even a doormat-sized Fluke.
False Albacore…Show
great numbers beginning in late September. Schools of fish spread
from Guilford, Connecticut to Montauk, New York with their greatest
concentrations forming in the Sluiceway, Race, and Plum Gut. These
six to twelve pound tunas are not great for eating, but their
line-peeling runs and typical tuna endurance will stay in your
memory for a long time. False Albacore are a fantastic adversary on
fly and light spinning tackle. Schools of fish chase bait through
the rough rip lines of the areas mentioned above which can make for
a bouncy drift while battling a fish.
